Papo de Residência is a preparation programme for Brazilian medical residency exams, bringing together mentoring, technology and study content. PDR Flashcards is one of the products we build at Papo, alongside the study platform and the mentoring programme. I took part in developing the app as part of my work on the team.
The point of Flashcards is to help students review often and retain what they learned across the preparation. The app gathers cards by specialty and topic, with spaced repetition to spread reviews over time. On the phone, that becomes a routine: pick the subjects, review one card at a time, and follow your own studying.
Stack and implementation
React Native · Expo · TypeScript · React Navigation · TanStack Query · Zustand · Reanimated
The mobile app is built with React Native, Expo and TypeScript. React Navigation organises the screens and navigation flows; TanStack Query handles data fetching and caching, and Zustand holds interface state. Animations and gestures combine Reanimated and Gesture Handler, keeping the interactions continuous while studying.
Choosing what goes into the session
Decks organise content by area of medicine and let you choose which topics to study. On the home screen, the day's session takes the spotlight, with progress and a direct path to continue. Quick review also lets you practise specific subjects without changing the daily plan.
One question at a time
Before starting, a summary presents the cards in the session and an estimated time. During the review, the question takes the centre of the screen; the answer appears when the student decides to reveal it. Then they rate how hard it felt. Favourites and personal notes help them come back to what deserves attention.
Seeing the consistency
The metrics screen gathers streak days, cards studied and average time per card. The heatmap shows how studying spread across the semester, helping the student notice how often they come back to review.
